Aston Villa are reportedly closing in on a move for Norwich City attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell. This is according to the publication from the stables of Football Insider. It was revealed that Villa are on course to make the England u21 international their third signing of the season after Norwich City teammate Emiliano Buendia and former player Ashley Young.
English winger Ashley Young is back at Villa after a decade. He was signed on a free transfer after his contract with Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan ended last month. Young was in the Nerazzurri squad that won the Scudettoat the end of the last league season in the Italian top flight.
Apart from Norwich City star Cantwell, Aston Villa are also keen on signing highly rated Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey during this summer’s transfer window. Jamaica national team player has been at Leverkusen since signing for the German Bundesliga team from Belgian team Genk four years ago. He helped Leverkusen to Europa League qualification via the German Bundesliga at the end of last season.
Villa have turned their attention to Cantwell and Bailey after missing out on Arsenal youngster Emile Smith-Rowe. The midlands club made two separate bids for Smith-Rowe this summer but they were rejected by the Gunners.
Aston Villa made a first bid of £25m for Smith-Rowe before it was improved to £30m in the second bid. Both bids were turned down by the Gunners who always maintained that the player was not for sale despite the fact that he had two years left on his contract. The young Englishman has now penned a new long-term deal to put an end to talks about his Arsenal future.
