Premier League bottom team Norwich City are now on a losing run of five successive in the competition after their defeat at home to Chelsea on Thursday night. The Canaries lost 3-1 to their visitors to make it five defeats on the bounce in league terms and six defeats on the bounce in all competitions.
Norwich City are fighting to avoid demotion to the English Championship at the first time of asking and they have not been helped by the aforementioned poor run. Norwich City are one of several teams fighting for survival at the bottom of the Premier League and they secured promotion for this season by finishing as the champions of the Championship last season. Apart from Norwich City, Everton, Leeds United, Burnley and Watford are also in the relegation fight as far as the Premier League is concerned.
Chelsea were clear favourites going into their league game with Norwich City despite the problems off the pitch with owner Roman Abramovich and they raced into a two-goal lead at the end of the first half. They made a dream start thanks to the third minute opener from young defender Trevor Chalobah off the corner kick from playmaker Mason Mount. Eleven minutes later, Mount turned goalscorer as he doubled the lead for Chelsea after good work from the German duo of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
Norwich City were handed a lifeline when Chalobah was penalised for handball in the Chelsea box midway into the second half and star striker Teemu Pukki stepped up to score the resulting penalty a few minutes later. Norwich City tried to score a second goal to secure a point from the game, but their hopes were dashed on the stroke of full-time when Havertz powered home a third Chelsea goal to seal the three points.
With the latest Premier League result between Norwich City and Chelsea, the Blues are now unbeaten in 14 games against the Canaries.
